The Nebraska Cornhuskers defense will be without one of their top playmakers in the secondary for four to six months after cornerback Chris Jones underwent knee surgery to repair his left meniscus, head coach Mike Riley announced on Saturday.

The 6-foot, 190-pound defensive back was slated to represent the Cornhuskers at Big Ten Media Day, but will instead be replaced by junior safety Aaron Williams, who will join teammates Tanner Lee and Chris Weber.

Last season, Jones picked off three passes and returned one of them for a touchdown to go along with 10 pass breakups. For his efforts, he was named honorable mention All-Big Ten.

Right now, to me, hes laser-beam, locked in, first-year defensive coordinator Bob Diaco said in late June, per Omaha.com. Hes focused on what he wants to do, what he wants to get done, what he wants for this defense and what he wants for this team, and hes attacking that " in a real way each day. Its not pretend.

As a sophomore in 2015, the cornerback started seven of the 13 games he appeared in. Jones finished the year with 25 tackles, two interceptions, five breakups, two tackles for loss and a sack.
