Nebraska freshman wide receiver Derrion Grim is leaving the program before ever playing a game in a Husker uniform.

Grim sent a thank you note to Husker fans & Husker teammates on Twitter.

I appreciate everything you all have done for me, Grim wrote. Love all of you!

Though Grim did not directly refer to transferring in the tweet, Grim's father, LaTef Grim, confirmed to the World-Herald early Thursday that his son was leaving the Huskers.

"He doesn't think it's the right fit," LaTef Grim said. "It's not the right fit for him."

Derrion Grim " a 6-foot, 195-pounder from Stockton (Calif.) McNair High School " had talked with coaches before this week, LaTef said, about potentially transferring. Father said he'd talked to his son about sticking with Nebraska, but will support the decision. Grim has not officially received his release to contact other schools yet, but LaTef Grim believes Mike Riley will grant his son one.

"He's a unique kid," LaTef Grim said. "I stand by the dude 1000 (percent)."

After Grim sent his tweet, teammates responded as well on Twitter, wishing Grim well in the future.
